How does it work?
The Plume d’Or competition brings together higher education establishments in Western France (ESEO, Agro Campus, ESA, ESSCA and Ircom), with the main aim of stimulating students’ creativity through written expression.
Each year, different subjects are proposed. This year, students have a choice of 5 subjects:
– The fantastic story: introducing a mysterious event into a perfectly real life where the irrational comes to life.
– The news story: like a journalist, the aim is to write about an unusual event that doesn’t exist, appealing to the reader’s emotions.
– The epistolary genre: writing a letter that mixes fact and fiction.
– Object facts and gestures: recount the life of an object, its adventures and all its twists and turns.
– Interior monologue : a deep thought, a dream or a dilemma of an invented protagonist.
After the subjects were revealed, the students gave free rein to their imagination under exam conditions. They chose a topic and wrote a 300-500 word text. This exercise is an opportunity to push students’ creativity and get them thinking in a whole new way.
“Small moments of happiness
Once the entries had been sent to the members of the jury, the 25 members (i.e. 5 juries per school) took the time to read them. Each essay was anonymous.
After reading the entries, the committee reached its verdict: a winner was elected for each subject, as well as a “jury’s favourite” winner. The awards ceremony will take place on 25 March 2021, this year at ESEO, health permitting.
The students who did not receive a prize will still have the chance to appear in the book entitled“Petits moments de bonheur“, which will bring together the best essays of the “Plumes d’Or”: those who have managed to appeal to the emotions, who have a unique writing style, etc. In all, 45 essays will appear in this book.
