Press release / Paris, 18 May 2022
On Friday 20 May, ESEO Angers – Grande école d’ingénieurs will be hosting the academic finals for the Pays de la Loire region of two emblematic competitions aimed at the region’s secondary school students: the Engineering Sciences Olympiads and the Construction Engineering competition. These two competitions, which are a must-attend annual event for young scientists, provide an opportunity for teams to present their projects to a panel of teachers and professionals.
13th Engineering Science Olympiad
This annual national competition for pupils in 1ère and Terminale (specialising in SI, STI2D) provides an opportunity for teams to work together on an innovative, experimental project involving engineering sciences. Each team – made up of two to five students, supervised by one or two teachers – presents a project incorporating multi-technological and multi-technical experimental work relating to a societal theme. This year’s theme is: engineering for mobility.
7 teams from the Nantes education authority will be competing for 1st prize and a place in the national final on 6 June. In 2021, a number of original projects have been unveiled, including Zéphyr, a mechanical plant for primary schools that folds according to air quality, and AMAE, a motorised ankle brace with two functions: rehabilitation and walking assistance.
The Génies de la construction competition
The Génies de la construction competition, created in 2005, is ‘the competition for intelligent territories’. Its aim is to encourage creativity and promote the practical application of that creativity by pupils and students working together to address and illustrate issues relating to construction and regional planning. The competition is aimed at secondary school pupils and higher education students.
For the 2022 edition, 10 teams will present their construction or development to the jury: virtual model or digital production and/or materialized by a physical model of the project or of a (‘intelligent’) part of it.
ESEO, a key player in careers guidance
In order to help young pupils and students build their training pathways, ESEO will also be offering participants conferences and discovery workshops such as an electronic component soldering workshop and a choice of tutorials.
